A burst of colour has arrived in Luton town centre this month with the return of planters, baskets and flora displays, all funded by Luton Business Improvement District (BID).

This is the fifth year Luton BID has provided floral decoration, with the BID also funding the maintenance of the baskets and planters.

This year there are 16 three tier planters, 51 hanging baskets and 15 barrier baskets – located along George Street, Market Hill, Bute Street, St Mary’s Road, Mill Street and outside the train station.

Gavin O’Brien, Chair of Luton BID, said: “Every summer businesses, residents and visitors tell us just how much they love our flowers. Having blooming and beautiful flower-filled streets brings an added vibrancy to the town centre and a sense of pride, that we are confident improves the visitor experience for all.”
Fergus McLardy, Luton BID Project Manager, added: “It was carnival time in May and the first weekend our flowers have been in place, so it was great to see so many families admiring them and posing for photos. Our flowers make a real impact on visitors and workers in the BID area.“
Businesses have also been admiring the blooms, with Jina Kauser from Starbucks, telling the BID: “These town centre flowers will have a long-term positive effect on wellbeing. Flowers bring smiles all round and brighten up everything.”
Anthony Page, from Luton Library, said “The flowers are brightening our area and days,” while Mimi Kieya from Destiny added “they town centre looks so much better.”

Luton BID is project managed by Partnerships for Better Businesses.
