Local businesses are in a 28-day ballot period and are voting on the renewal of the Luton Business Improvement District (BID) for the next five years 2020-2025.

The vision for the BID’s five-year plan is to ‘Support business growth and investment in the town centre and build pride, loyalty and positive perceptions of Luton as a whole’.

One of the plan’s key objectives is to ensure the town centre is accessible, distinctive and appealing.  Environmental projects already established such as window vinyl’s on vacant units to maintain a smart presence, summertime floral displays and targeted street cleaning to improve the cleanliness of the area will continue.

The BID will also be working with Cultural Trust Luton, Luton Borough Council, the University and others to develop the different areas of the town centre such as the Hat District and the University Quarter so that they look and feel great.

Abbas Shaffi, Owner of Shaffi and Sons and Director of Luton BID, said: “The past five years of the BID have seen some fantastic work taking place to make Luton more accessible and attractive to visitors – the floral displays, our deep cleaning Glutton machine and regular tidy days have all helped to make Luton town centre more appealing for all.

“I will be voting YES to ensure these projects continue and we can build upon this work to make Luton a great place for business.”

The new BID’s  three other key project areas are promotion of the town and its businesses, improving the experience and in particular addressing crime and safety and supporting business growth and investment.

The Proposal and Business Plan 2020-2025 is out to ballot this month, the result due on the 1st November.
