Businesses in Luton town centre are being urged to vote YES in this month’s BID renewal ballot – to ensure a host of safety and security projects can continue to be funded.
Throughout October businesses are being given the chance to vote on the renewal of the town centre’s status as a BID, which would ensure a further five years of investment for 2020-2020.
Since first voting to become a BID nearly five years ago more than £2million has been invested in the town centre. A second term as a BID would secure a similar pot of funding for the next five years, with the safety and security of Luton town centre identified as one of the key objectives for the next five years.
Roy Greening, General Manager of The Mall and Director of Luton BID, said: “Crime, safety and anti-social behaviour are key issues in Luton, just as they are everywhere.
“Without the BID we would not have had additional police and their focus on the town. BID partners along with all agencies must work together to tackle these issues.
“I will be voting YES to ensure the continuation of the progress we have made on the issues over the past five years and I urge you to do the same.”
BID funded projects (which come under the ‘Experience’ objective) such as the BID’s uniformed Ambassadors and the digital radio subsidy scheme will continue with the YES vote.
Moving forwards, the BID will continue working with the Police, local authority and other partnership organisations to tackle anti-social behaviour, street drinking and begging alongside developing business crime intelligence sharing opportunities.
The Proposal and Business Plan 2020-2025 is being put to the ballot by businesses in this month with the result due on the 1st November
The plan’s vision is to ‘Support business growth and investment in the town centre and build pride, loyalty and positive perceptions of Luton as a whole’.
It includes four key project areas: promotion of the town and its businesses, making Luton look and feel great, improving the experience and in particular addressing crime and safety and supporting business growth and investment.
